About the Research Program

The research program (Research training course) is the actual practical portion of the program performing specifically what we mentioned in our principles; “We will endeavor to stimulate the students’ interest through “Space-themed” activities filled with dreams and adventures. They will learn many things actively and joyfully instead of passively studying only for exams and choosing high school and university fit to their scholastic standards. We will support children in their life choices by helping them to express themselves, achieve their goals and learn many things.

Not only are there direct lectures by instructors as at most University research seminars or essay guidance as at Graduate school, the students also have meetings in which the members play the central role. We also have a mentoring program where higher grade students support lower grade students. We encourage the students to think proactively, have a positive attitude, enjoy researching, and acquire basic skills as individuals including communication skills. In this program, they perform their own research while they learn the research know-how.

As part of the program to develop researchers for space science and space engineering, we have discussions and perform specific investigations and verifications of assumptions based on the theme. The students will become knowledgeable in a field which is highly specialized and required at graduate school during the beginning and middle period. Our goal of human resource development is that by the time they graduate high school, they can decide their field and be able to make a presentation sharing their accumulated knowledge.




Space Glider Program

Rockets are referred to as “disposable” and the research for “Reusable and Returnable Spacecraft” has been done actively all over the world since the 1960’s. However it hasn’t been put to practical use other than the space shuttle operated between 1981 and 2011.

Even the space shuttle has been retired because of the high cost and aging. The Space Shuttle Challenger and Columbia disasters were both caused by their unique structure design.

“Reusable and Returnable Spacecraft” is one of the research fields at Village for Children of the Earth Space Education Center.
We are researching to develop a space glider which reaches space using weather observation balloons. It will then observe the earth and eject satellites while gliding down.

The students will become involved with the activities of preparing, developing and testing the flight of the Space Glider as a research theme of the program in order to create a foundation for their future jobs related to space development.

Together with you in the future we would like to take the first step toward researching and developing a “Space Plane” which can glide, take off, land and leave and enter Earth’s atmosphere by itself without using special launching facilities like airplanes.






Micro Satellite (miniaturized satellite) Program

While respecting the children’s free-minded ideas, we actively have discussions, research further and look for results based on our research theme. This will consist of various concepts, ideas, plans and designs of a space mission including developing a satellite from planning to designing.

We train and support the students in manual techniques such as soldering used when making trial parts as well as the creation of reports and other documents and the use of presentation software, PowerPoint etc.

We are directed in our research in the program by referencing the regulations of, “Satellite Design Contest” for ages from high school students to graduate students (Hosted by Japan Space Forum and JAXA) and “The Japanese high school CanSat Championship”(Hosted by 「Risuu ga tanoshiku naru kyouiku」Jikkou Iinkai)

The students will learn independence and motivation for learning through the experience and dynamism of the research such as the thrill of discovery and the challenges to solve problems by themselves while they design, plan, produce and operate their own projects.

子どもならではの自由な発想のもと、構想の立ち上げから設計に至るまでの人工衛星開発をはじめとした様々な宇宙ミッションのコンセプト、アイデア、設計構想等を研究テーマとして活発に議論し、深く掘り下げ、成果を求めていきます。その中では試作パーツを制作する際のはんだ付け等の技術やレポート・資料作成の際の書面のまとめ方やプレゼンテーションソフト(Microsft PowerPoint等)の使い方等に関する指導・サポートも行います。
